About Reading Smarties 

 

Welcome to Reading Smarties Learning centre, where we are dedicated to transforming lives through foundational education. We are fully registered with the Ministry of Education, Jamaica, and our core programme carries their official endorsement.

 

By combining research-backed methodologies with a supportive learning environment, we empower students of all ages to discover their full potential and achieve lasting academic success.

 

 

Reading Smarties mission is to provide a holistic approach to teaching ; where the social, emotional, ethical and academic needs of the students are integrated. Our flexible programme  caters to students from various backgrounds with diverse needs.

We strongly believe that one size does not fit all as every learner is different. As such, a multi-modal approach is  being utilized.

​The journey of the Reading Smarties Learning Centre began in 2016 as a small club created to support a handful of struggling readers, including an adult learner. Driven by that initial passion to make literacy accessible, we have evolved into a fully registered institution dedicated to transforming lives through Literacy.

​About our Tutors

Our tutors are trained in Literacy instruction and  also have experience working with students with specific learning difficulties, Intellectual disabilities and Autism Spectrum disorder.

​Our one-year intervention programme

  • For Ages 6-8 (Early Literacy)

    • Learning by doing:-Fun and engaging programs focused on Foundational literacy skills.

 

"We help kids make sense of letters and words through games, stories, and activities!"

For Ages 9-12 (Intermediate Literacy) and ages 13-18 (Adolescent Literacy)

 Higher thinking skills (from learning to read to reading to learn)

  • Programs designed to boost fluency, vocabulary, and problem-solving.

  • Interactive sessions where learners improve their narrative and expository writing skills, improving sentence structure, and reading comprehension.

How do I know when my child is ready to read?

Some indicators of Reading Readiness:-

 

A Desire to Read

*Your child is interested in listening to stories and books.

*Will want you to read for them.

*Make up their own stories

* Pretend to read a page.They may also memorize the

favorite parts of different stories and “read” along with you

*Print And Book Awareness

*Play with rhymes
